My work is inspired by the the quote in Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments, “It is a beautiful experiment: the untiring practice of how-to-live when you were never meant to survive”, as well as this video taken on my recent travel to Cuba: a country with a racist, 60 year economic embargo that has isolated the Cuban people and drained the country of resources.
Despite the US’s best efforts and hybrid wars on the small island, Cuba continues to exist as an alternative to Capitalism and International Solidarity as they provide medical care and two homegrown vaccines to countries in the global south like Mexico, Vietnam, Iran, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Bolivia, and Argentina. They also have existing relationships of medical care with Haiti, Jamaica and other countries in Latin American and Europe.
