Jan 27, 2024 —❋— 11:24 am Joie Ha responds to Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Y. Davis The piece shows how the historic legacy of White supremacy and slavery continues to exist in our current-day society through a variety of ways- specifically in our prison system. The bars across the piece depict a cell- but they are rendered in white instead of the usual black to represent that the oppressive factors in this racist system are the same ones that uphold and benefit White supremacy. Despite this, the face shows peace in knowing that one day- with the work of abolitionists and allies- we may be able to exist in a world where prisons are obsolete.
