Iron Ore Something Else

From my cell you can sometimes see the sky,

but for a while now it’s just been dark,

as if the sun hasn’t come,

maybe deciding we weren’t worth the light.

Imagine, Iron bars and concrete, cold and lifeless.

This refashioned earth keeps my body,

but not my mind or my spirit.

I keep my heart open, despite most days.

I saw the sunrise yesterday and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s.

Will it be filled with more Iron, or something else?

A new found freedom awaits.
